Stroh Hereford Ranch: 78 Years of Functional Range Cattle Built for the Modern Cattleman
For more than 78 years, Stroh Hereford Ranch has remained committed to one simple goal: producing functional, range-ready Hereford cattle with the eye appeal and performance demanded by today’s commercial cattleman. Through disciplined management, practical genetics, and real-world development, Stroh Hereford cattle are designed to thrive—not just look good on sale day.
A Ranching Philosophy Rooted in Real-World Conditions
At Stroh Hereford Ranch, our cattle are raised the way commercial producers expect to run them—on grass, under environmental pressure, and without shortcuts. Bulls and females are developed to express true phenotype, structural integrity, and maternal strength without excessive feeding or artificial conditioning.
Our philosophy ensures cattle that:
- Hold condition on forage
- Travel and perform on large pastures
- Remain fertile and sound long-term
- Fit seamlessly into commercial cow-calf systems
Stroh Hereford Bulls Developed for Longevity, Not the Feedlot
This year’s sale bulls tell that story clearly.
Born into a mild spring, these bulls transitioned naturally into a dry summer full of grass, hoppers, flies, and dust-real-world conditions. Thanks to strong maternal foundations, they grew into solid calves without being pushed.
Bulls After Weaning:
- Bulls entered a mild winter that allowed natural development
- They were grown into rugged, ranch-ready two-year-olds
- Placed on grass in June and cake-broke
- Received Aliform Range Pro mineral with 25-12 Fly tags
- Maintained sound growth without excess input
This program reflects Stroh Hereford Ranch’s commitment to functional growth and durability, not artificial performance.
Maternal Power Through Missouri-Grad Bred Heifers
The Stroh Hereford Ranch program extends beyond bulls. This fall, a set of Missouri-grad bred heifers demonstrated our ranch’s commitment to maternal excellence.
The Heifer Development:
- Range-raised and handled through challenging Missouri Plateau conditions
- Went to grass in May
- Cake-broke and supplemented with Edi solid blocks starting July 2
- Sorted into breeding pastures and exposed to Angus heifer bulls sourced from:
- Ficek Cattle Company, Manning, ND
- Ellingson Angus of St. Anthony, ND
These heifers represent the kind of efficient, low-maintenance females that modern operations demand.
