POUNDS PAY
At Prairie Hills Gelbvieh, our breeding philosophy centers on a simple, proven truth—pounds pay.
While the beef industry continues to evolve, we consistently select cattle for these traits:
- Easy fleshing
- Thick made
- Structurally sound
- Adaptable to dry range and challenging environments.
Our cattle deliver where it matters most—at weaning and on the scale. We emphasize moderate-framed cattle that calve easily, convert forage efficiently, and add pounds without sacrificing maternal strength or longevity. This balanced approach helps commercial producers stay profitable through all market cycles.
Herd Sires
Proven herd sires include: RWG Exact Combination 7409, MCCA Gunner 947G, PHG Paycheck C24, MDR N.H. Blackout 7412E, BLB Grinder 39G, DVE Davidson Howard 3E, and PHG Hamilton H10. These bulls consistently sire calves that are born unassisted and wean over 800 pounds, proving that performance and maternal excellence go hand in hand.
POWER IN PERFORMANCE BULLS
Prairie Hills Gelbvieh produces Gelbvieh, Balancer®, and Red Angus bulls designed for modern commercial cattlemen and progressive seedstock producers. Our cattle combine outcross genetics, strong phenotype, and real-world functionality, delivering dependable performance—not just numbers on paper.
Program History and Philosophy
Founded in 1985 by Galen and Marcia Sickler, Prairie Hills Gelbvieh is built on elite foundation females sourced from the Black Hills Stock Show, Taucks Gelbvieh, and Weber Gelbvieh. From the beginning, the program focuses on blending performance, muscle, structural integrity, and eye appeal.
Influential sires such as DBC Grizzly Bear, one of the breed’s first high-performance polled show bulls, and TAU Issac, a breed-leading sire for weaning and yearling weight, help shape today’s herd. With the addition of Klint and Maralee Sickler in 2007, the operation expands and continues to progress into a multi-generation seedstock program focused on efficiency, longevity, and profitability.
