L83 RANCH: CATTLE GENETICS & BREEDING STRATEGY

L83 Ranch consists of 200 purebred Red Angus cows. We meticulously select replacement females and raise bulls for our L83 Ranch Annual Production Sale, held every third Tuesday of March at Kist Livestock in Mandan, ND. The L83 Ranch focus is on maintaining a healthy, highly presentable, and docile cow herd. With a significant Canadian genetic influence, we ensure diversity in our gene pool, leveraging the strengths of both American and Canadian pedigrees.

HISTORY OF L83 RANCH

The history of L83 Ranch dates back to 1951 when Leonard Lodoen, a passionate cattle enthusiast, purchased his first 4H steer. What began as Lodoen Hereford Farms, founded by Leonard and his brother Myron, evolved into Lodoen Cattle Company in 1994 with the acquisition of Red Angus cows from Charlie and Linda Lewis of Rock Creek Red Angus in Joliet, Montana. Despite being known across the USA & Canada as a horned Hereford breeder, Leonard’s decision demonstrated foresight, leveraging his knowledge of pedigrees and EPDs to excel in the Red Angus breed. Over the years, Lodoen Cattle Company transformed into L83 Ranch, marking a journey of growth and expansion in the livestock industry.
