Greetings and welcome to the 18th Annual Durhams in the Dakotas Sale!
As I write this, we are on the heels of what they are calling the “Ice Storm of the
Century” in ND. Our area was especially hard hit, with in excess of an inch of ice
on all nearly all surfaces within a 100-mile or so radius. Thankfully, we didn’t
immediately go to -20 with wind. What we do have is generators running at
every power pole, open waterers, and, the cattle fed and bedded. The expectation is
we could be without power for up to 2 weeks. I told someone today I just hope
it’s back up by sale day…don’t’ worry, I have a hunch the sale barn will be hot
regardless!
As hard as the last few days have been, a true bright spot has been finishing
up this catalog. What a set of Shorthorn and Shorthorn-influenced bulls! New
outcross sire groups, the first set of sons from The Champ himself, JW, and
perhaps the neatest thing is the high-end sons from past high sellers, raised
right here, products of the program.
About our program. We are dedicated to the Shorthorn breed having raised
them since 1953. We have been a member of the Century Club of the American
Shorthorn Association the past 16 years and in the last 3 years consecutively
we have registered more Shorthorn cattle than any other operation in North
America. We are disciplined in that we adhere to stringent standards when it
comes to calving ease and demand excellence in convenience traits. We pride
ourselves in being different, searching the globe for new bloodlines to enhance
our proven cow base, further positioning ourselves as an industry player with
Shorthorn cattle, something that was nearly an afterthought not that long ago.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we expect our cattle to be durable. We
expect these bulls to last. We do the best we can to ensure that through retention
of their dams with a heavy emphasis placed on fertility and longevity, all the while
testing them in an environment that forces them to be highly adaptable.
We hope you are able to take time from your busy schedules to be with us any
time prior to, or, on sale weekend. As always, the gates are open to view the
cowherd and Herd Sires. Paramount, however, is that barn around 6 pm sale
night. It’s where old friends reunite, new ones meet, and, where the renewed
excitement for America’s First is fully realized.
Make plans to attend the sale at the Ranch near Kathryn, North Dakota, or watch and bid online at DVAuction.
We hope you can join us! Derek Jungels
