LOCATION

Sale Location

Effertz Key Ranch is located in the north central plains of North Dakota. We market and sell around 80 Charolais bulls and 40 Salers bulls a year. Our goal has always been to select cattle whose genetics would strengthen the weaknesses of each breed while continuing to enhance their strong characteristics.

We like the many things that each breed does to further the economical production of high-quality beef along every step of the ladder from conception to consumer. With these things in mind, in order to stay progressive and competitive we have implemented DNA testing our bulls for Leptin and PMCH. These genes lend to better carcass quality on the rail, and for the past few years we have been able to see this firsthand for ourselves.

Dating back to 1959, Effertz Key Ranch was built by Gerald “Pat” and Loretta Effertz. He began with breeding Charolais cattle and in 1975, he purchased part interest in the first Salers bull, Jet, to be imported into the United States.

Today, Effertz Key Ranch is ran by Pat’s sons Roger & Kevin Effertz and son in law Bryan Dean, along with Pat’s two grandsons that play a large role, Kyle Effertz and Adam Dean.
