BUILDING A LEGACY OF THRIVING ANGUS: A & B CATTLE

For the past 30-plus years, A & B Cattle’s main priority has been to produce thrifty, maintenance-free Angus cattle that can thrive under Nebraska Sandhills range conditions. The cow herd consists of 600 registered and commercial Angus cows managed under our breeding program, reflecting the environment of other ranch operations in the area.

This Angus cow herd summers on native grass pastures and winters on nearby crop residue stalk fields. The A & B Cattle cow herd has evolved in this Sandhills ranch environment and is bred to thrive on the forages nature provides. Calves are not creep-fed, and cows are not supplemented while on pasture, thus providing the most accurate data on a cow’s individual performance. Herd management is taken seriously; any cows that do not consistently wean a big calf or are reproductively inferior are automatically culled. This rigid selection process is reflected in females that are deep-sided and broody and bulls that are thick-made, fast-gaining, and maintenance-free.

The annual A & B Cattle bull sale markets the top 150 Angus bulls that have survived rigorous culling and performance evaluations. No yearling bull born after April 1st is sold through the sale but is retained to be sold for fall breeding programs. Bulls from the fall breeding program are also included in our annual sale. The great weather and growing conditions this year have allowed A & B Cattle to offer one of the most uniform and healthiest sets of bulls to date. Both sets of Angus bulls, regardless of age, have consistently performed well, and we hope you share our confidence in their quality.
